Cervical slip disc is remains undiagnosed in several case. There are many conditions which mimic with the cervical herniated disc. The diagnosis comes in last, when physicians try everything with no results. When the disc in neck herniates or leaks out and starts pressing the nerve root or the spinal cord and severity of the problem is high. Than diagnosis of the same comes in light. C7-T1 is the junction point of the thoracic and cervical spines. This is a similar position to the L5-S1. All the movements occur at this level like a pivot. When things are not good with the muscles of the neck, all the pressure comes here and disturbs the spinal disc at C7-T1 level.
C7-T1 disc is mostly known as- Cervico-thoracic junction too. This is the region where highly flexible cervical region meets the fixed thoracic region. At this point the lordosis of cervical ends and kyphotic curvature of the thoracic region starts.
From level of C7-T1 the C8 nerve root emerges from the spinal cord. When there is a condition of C7-T1 slip disc, it irritates the C8 nerve. This condition is C8 radiculopathy. Pain, weakness, numbness or tingling which radiates from shoulder to the back side of upper arm. The same pain goes to the medial side of the hand- to the little finger and ring finger. This condition of C7-T1 radiculopathy can be occur in one side or both sides of the body. C7-T1 slip disc can cause weakness with handgrip, along with numbness and tingling and pain that radiates down the arm to the little finger side of hand.
There are several conditions of the slip disc in C7-T1 level, these are different according to the condition of the disc-
When there is a degeneration of the C7-T1 starts because of the pressure caused by loss of lordosis. This condition can be found just on screeening of the cervical region, during doing an MRI. But when this degenerative disc causes some irritation of the nerve root all symptoms of the problem can appear.

When jelly from the core of the disc, starts dislocating and it causes pressure on the annular fibres. Same condition is known as C7-T1 bulged disc. If bulge is paracentral than it gives symptoms to both the parts of the body. But when it is only on one side- symptoms will be prominent on either side only.

This condition of C7-T1 herniated disc is not a very common finding. When the inner jelly-like nucleus puloposus leaks from the inner side due to tear in the ligaments. The gelatinous part which has lot of proteins start irritating the nerves. Due to C7-T1 herniated disc there will be all the symptoms of the C8 Cervical Radiculopathy. Severe compressions can lead to the problems like loss of handgrip due to affected fingers.

This is not a common condition in case of C7-T1 disc. Because there are less movements in this region of the spine. But spurs and osteophytes are common in this level. Certainly when whole spine affects with this problem, there will be certain changes at this level too. Facetal arthropathy is most common finding in category of the osteoarthritis at this level.

When bulged disc in C7-T1 level or C7-T1 herniated disc is ignored regularly, it leads to the canal stenosis in this level. When there is severe or mild canal stenosis at this level- but it is chronic- it will keep on exerting pressure on the cervical spinal cord. This condition causes the cervical myelopathy.
Myelopathy when occurs this is a clear indication that spinal cord is not healthy. C7-T1 cervical myelopathy can lead to the complete paraplegic condition. The core muscles are also affected in this condition.
There are bony holes on each level of the cervical spine. When disc deflates and expands- bulged disc in C7-T1 level or C7-T1 herniated disc on sides this condition causes compression in these bony holes. These are two on every level and this condition gives pain on both the sides or one side of the spine.
